Hello all;
Lately I have been shooting a bullet from a mold owned years ago by Frank Marshall (god rest his soul! My hero!). I have the mold loaned out; it is either a Lyman or Saeco. Lubed with stick alox.
It casts a .310 bore riding section with a "truncated flat nose" shape. Meplat is 1/8" or thereabout. It weighs 195g. out of mold; hardness is unknown, but it is hard; I can't scatch it! The bullets were gas checked but not sized.
One of Frank Marshall's favorite powders was IMR 4350; 30.0 grains. Thats what I used and results have been 2-3" groups about 2" lower than POI with jacketed 170 FN bullets. Next I will up load to 32.0g to see if I can get same POI!
I suspect this would make a decent deer load. I have been married to a deer lover for 55 years, so I will probably not find out!
Just wanted to share this with you all.
Best to all;
