Hi all I just got a contender barrel in 44 mag. and looking at the thin asspect of the barrel it makes me wonder if it will handel upper end loads safely some of the hand loads I have been looking at have CUP in the upper 30,000 (37,300) does anyone know what the factory limits are on this barrel??

The barrel was made to SAAMI specifications so any thing the bull barrels can take, the octagon can too.

I have shot lots of octogon barrels in the contender they will withstand full house loads as long as you stay within load manual loads,
have fun with it

Yep.. all true. Had one in the late 70's in fact. learned how to reload [and how Not to] as well as how to cast boolits for that .44 bbl! But! If you can handle the "felt" recoil of that Devil [especially w/ the old style wood grip] Then you sir are indeed "tough"!!! Me. I Don't shoot light arms w/ full charges No More!!! The gun can handle it... I can't!!! MV [wussy]

well it has the newer grip with the rubber back strap and I have never minded the recoil of a full load 44. I have loaded some 180 grain jhp that I had laying around 50 with 29 gr h110 and 50 with 10 gr w231. hope to get to the range this week and see how `they run
