Why is it that my rcbs and other saeco molds won't freely drop out bullets? I have cleaned them with hot soapy water and a tooth brush,Is there anything special to do to make casting a bit easier?

USMC 87 Get a spray can of brake cleaner from Walmart. Can't guarantee it will work for you but it does for me.

Check all the edges of the cavities for tiny burrs. Use a magnifier. Burrs you can't see can hold a bullet very tightly.

Wouldnt a better way to check for this be to run a q-tip along the edges and look for ANY fiber snagging?

Don't know if this helps but it works for me. I use to cast with only aluminum molds and never had issues. Once I started using steel molds I had the same problem to the point that I avoided them. Added a PID and hot plate to heat molds to around 300 degrees. I set my PID at 675 degrees and now the boolits drop fine.

Experiment with temperature; melt temp and mold temp. I have lapped my steel molds with Comet and oil, not abrasive enough to remove any metal, just polishes up the cavity, then clean with brake-clean (twice). Any tiny burr or dent in the mold cavity will hold a bullet from dropping freely so a good inspection can tell you a lot. I haven't used any spray on mold release or smoke/carbon in mebbe 14 years, 'cause I don't have any drop-out problems with a clean mold and proper temps (mold and melt)...

I appreciate all the advice fellers, Maybe I can now drop out some bullets. I got a barely used Rcbs 45-255 kt today I can't wait to see how it performs.
