What temperature of a templaq marker should I get when I anneal brass? Kevin

Look at it, and whenever it changes to a darker colour, stop.
Is that to complex?

You can torch the snot out of it by going bright orange, but less is more.

650 is the correct temperature but you will be sorry using the pencil. From experience, the crayon compound doesn't stick to the brass, clean or dirty. Use the liquid

the Hornady "annealing kit" uses 475 degree tempilaq. i called and asked them about it, because i thought that was way low. he told me that the reason for using 475 is when you are heating the brass, the brass will heat to a higher temp than the tempilaq will first. by using a higher temperature tempilaq, you would over heat the brass, thus removing all of the temper. since i have done that already all on my own by watching the brass "turn colors", and ruining them, i am in no hurry to repeat that outcome. and brass was fairly cheap then. the way things are going, once fired brass will soon be worth a buck a piece. but even at todays prices, it is to expensive to ruin and throw away.
