Hey all,

Am currently reloading for both 7.5x55 Swiss and 7.62x54r and having a blast so far, and am curious about pushing boolits a bit faster...

So far AA#7 and 2400 have produced good loads for up to 200yrds, but am looking to throw cast rounds a bit further than that at my range...

What powders do you find suitable for shots up to 600yrds? So far IMR4895 has caught my attention, and I also have RE17 that I use for jacketed, does anyone have any other powders to suggest?

Mostly plan on shooting rounds in the 200gr weight range

I use IMR 4350 in my 30/06 with the Lyman 314299 with good results. The powder is fairly slow, so it is easy on cast boolits.

I use AA4350, RL19, H4831SC and RL22 for such loads. If load density is less than 80% I use a dacron filler.

Hey Larry:

When you use any of the powders you listed, what kind of velocities can one expect when pushing the two-hundred grain cast boolits mentioned by the OP? I mean, in comparison to the average velocities using 2400 powder and say, 16-18 grains.

P.S. I know that accuracy at higher velocities is another subject all together. I'm only curious about velocities with these different powders at this stage of load development.

Just curious.

In .308W to '06 size cases with a 200 gr cast I expect 2000 - 2100 with any of those powders and maintain 2 moa for 20 shots. With 12" twists I can push that to 2300 fps for the same 2 mos or less for a 20 shot string.

hmm might give RL19 a try out of the k31... what would probably be a good starting load for that with a ~180-200gr cast round?

The RL17 you have should work well in your calibers.
I bought some IMR 7828 to try with 200 grain Lyman 311299 from a 30-06. Pretty slow powder.
Your smaller cases probably would not hold enough to achieve your velocity goal.
600 yards is getting out there. B.C. on a Lyman 311299 is .377. How fast would one need to get the boolit going to keep it supersonic to target?

Starting at 2100 fps with the supplied 311299 .377 BC the boolit would be running 1137 fps at 600 yards. 30.6 MOA drop from a 100 yard sight in.

i shoot a monster mosin, i use IMR4064 with the sierra 174 match king bullet in ppu brass and cci primers, its running just short of 2500 fps

OK so when I get my Cu enhanced alloy 311299 running at 2350 from 30-06 rifle over my load of IMR 7828 I'll be way good to our 500 yard line in Effingham Illinois.

That is some high expectations. For sure. Will give it a shot . Schedule pending.

i cant even see 600 yds but i think any start load data from a jacketed bullet book would work, they sure look good at 200 with a 15+ alloy
