Noob Question about use of seating dies

I would like to help a buddy out by reloading for his 300 Weatherby Mag. I have a seating die for a 300 Win Mag would that work? I know I'll have to purchase a sizing die, but I could save a few bucks getting only one.

The short answer without actually measuring the two cases, is it might. You have to make sure the 300 WM die will accept the 300 Wby without deforming the case. The dies are cut to specific cartridge profiles, and I have never seen either case up close so I don't know how close they are. Best bet would be to insert a sized 300 Wby case into the seater die by hand and see how far in it will go. If it doesn't bind or bottom out early, you should be able to make it work, but proceed carefully because that Weatherby brass is expensive stuff.

Don't, just buy the dies. The case lengths are diffrent and not worth the headaches that a set of dies from Lee will save. The right tool for the job as it were. ;-)
