I recently purchased a Legacy Puma M92 .454 Casull in 98%+ condition. It is a beautiful gun. Workmanship looks of quality. Wood and metal fit nicely. It is tight and smooth in its action. I cannot see any indication that the rifle was ever fired.

It does have the safety mounted on the top that I hear folks complain about. I don't see a problem with it, personally.

The outer barrel measures about 18" from the receiver to the muzzle. So, I am assuming the actual barrel is 16" in length. And, the barrel is ported.

The sights on it are the optic fiber style and are very easy to visually pick up.

I have no idea how old this gun might be. But, it must have just sat in the prior owner's safe.

I paid $350 for the rifle. Did I pay too much for the gun?

Thanks

If its in good shape, you made out like a bandit on that deal. Wish I could find one for that.

You got a very good price. If you dont like the safety, it can be easily replaced with a blank button or a rear peep sight. If you want to measure the barrel length just stick a wooden dowel down the barrel until it stops against the bolt face. Mark it at the end of the barrel, withdraw and measure.

I sat down last night and checked to see what of my various .454 Casull bullets fed well into this rifle (No firing. Just loading and cycling). The all seemed to do well. The ones that fed the best were the Buffalo Bore 360 Grain .454 Casull **360 gr. L.B.T. - L.W.N. (1,425 fps/M.E. 1,623 ft. lbs.)** I would imagine this, from a rifle, would be a good bit faster and at close range do some serious damage.

In today's market, I've seen them go for $600 plus, so I’ll say you did just fine. If I could find one for close to that price, I would grab it in an instant. :awesome:

I'd offer to buy it for $100 more than you paid but the penalty for receiving stolen goods is pretty stiff here in Pa. You did good.

My 20" Puma is shooting the Lee 300gr (actual 317gr in ww) at 1950fps which is plenty of abuse for me in that light of rifle. So far it feeds everything I have put in it. What's not to like and at a great price too.

+1 I fired two rounds of 300gr Cor Bon out of a Puma .454 and I was done. If I still owned one (mine was misappropriated) I'd load large numbers of light .45LC loads for practice, and only use actual .454s in bear country. And zero the sights using a lead-sled or such to prevent developing a flinch from bench-shooting it. But it's a really neat little carbine.

That's a great little rifle, and a wonderful close range "hunting machine." The power generated by the .454 is good enough for medium-large game at 100 yards.
