I got started in my quest for revolver accuracy by shooting some slhouette at the local range. I was having trouble hitting pigs at 100 meters.(I know pigs at shot at 50, but that was what was laying around)

I put the gun on paper and I was getting 4-6" groups at 50 yards.(this was with a bb swc by a production caster) After trying 6 different cast bullets for my .357, I finally have a couple of loads that will shoot 1" at 50 and am going to start testing at 100 meters tomorrow morning.

Does anyone have any favorite bullets and powder combinations for long range plinking for 38/357 and 44 Mag? I am talking 100-200 yards. The RCBS 82032 shoots 1" 38 in special cases with bullseye and with 15 grains of 2400 in magnum cases at 50 yards.

I haven't started working on the 44 load yet, that one is next. Of course the cost of premium cast bullets is as much as jacketed. I am now infected with the cast bullet disease and I don't see any hope for remission or cure. I think the only possible cure could be more WWs and molds taken in affordable doses.

In big bore sillywets chickens are at 50 ,pigs at 100 yards. Turkeys are at 150 and rams at 200. If you are shooting small bore (22rimfire) targets with your .357, the range officers will frown and MAY oust you from the range. I only used a .44 super black hawk for revolvers.

This was using hunters pistol targets, designed for big bore, because of the 100 meter range.

Out to 150 yards, 358429 has been very accurate out of my wife's Maximum. It has not shot well at 200, however. The SAECO 396 looks much better at 200 so far, even though it doesn't do quite as well at short range.

A friend who shoots a .44 found that 300 grain bullets hold up at 200 much better than lighter ones.

Yes, the Lee C340-310-RF and the LBT 320 WLNGC are very accurate with 21.5 gr's of 296 and a Federal 150 primer. The 240 XTP is super but when it comes to cast, heavier seems to shoot much better. Anything from 265 gr's up works fine with cast.
Cast with lube has more "Slip" from the brass even with tight neck tension so the boolit weight helps a good powder burn. I have never approached the accuracy of heavy cast with light boolits.

HI,
I have tried a 146, a158, & a160g w/gc w/ poor luck in the 357.
I now shoot the seaco 180 g gc & like it much better. I am very glad I got it in a 4 cavity mold as I have shot 4,000+ rounds this summer.
It can also be shot w/out the gas check, especally at the shorter ranges.
I currently use the 250g gc lyman kieth style in my 44. Don't know if I could handle a heavier bullet. I like to shoot 100 rounds a session.:Fire:
