Ultra-mount or Strong-mount

What are the pros and cons to using Ultra-mount or Strong-mount under your press?

I don't know about the Ultra Mount but I bought the Strong Mount for my Dillon 550 and wish I had done it to start with. It allows you to have the press not hanging over the edge of your bench, may make it easier to operate (did for me).

The only cons are a bigger footprint on the bench and that the press is closer to the ceiling if your reloading area is overhead challenged...

I have the strong mount on my 550. I have a bullet tray, case tray, tools bolted to back side and a 1050 bin to catch loads in. Very solid. Like it was stated before, larger footprint. I like the added height.

I bought a used Dillon 650 a couple of years ago and it came with the strong mount. I liked so well that I made one to go with my Hornady Lock n Load too. I stand when I reload and it puts the presses right where I need them. You need to consider your bench height and whether you stand or sit.

I've never used the other but the strong mount rocks!!! I have my 550 mounted to one along with the bullet tray, tool rack and cartridge bin.

My dad made his own "strong mount" and his works just as well as mine but he had to do more work to get the Dillon "extras" to work properly.

I don't think I would ever mount my press directly to the bench again. That being said, I'm not sold on any special type of mount. As long as its sturdy, and works for your application, it doesn't matter who makes it.

1. Nothing to bump into when you walk past the press.
2. No Dillon-lean.
3. The shell-holder is closer to eye-level.

I've built several risers for various presses and have some left overs.
I have one for a Dillon RL550B, several for Rockchuckers and one for Lee
Classic Cast I think. I like them becasue of the height increase, and no stuff
to bang you knees on under the bench edge

When I built my last bench I figured out how high it needed to be so I didn't have to bend at the waist with the levers in the full down position. I like to run progressive presses while standing. For me that was 42". Since there are 3 Dillons on that bench I saved the cost of 3 strong mounts. I had to cut 2x4s to whatever length I needed so there was no cost difference between 36" and 42". Sorry it's so clean here. It was new.
