Am getting ready to do an old rifle using the aluma-hyde paint.
Was looking at the Brownells web site and they show a primer for Aluma-hyde.
The ad says it is Plasti-coat etching primer and the picture is of a car.
Is this something I can buy at a auto paint store?
If I can I would not have to pay the Brownells haz- mat fee!!

Walmart may carry it.

I would definitely look at your local parts stores.
I know at least one here carries platicote products.

One tip on coating anything aluminum read an follw the instructions to a tee.
If they say to rough and clean the surface do so IMMEDIATELY before coating as aluminum does oxidize very quickly, you won't notice it hapen but it will be there.

I just noticed that the Rust-Oleum Universal paint (with strange top) that my wife picked up at the home center is supposed to work on aluminum also.
Definitely use outside though this stuff stinks bad!
It comes in lots of colors incl. flat black and seemed to work fine on the plastics we painted with it.
