I concur with the above. While nothing looks quite as good as a new, high polished nickeled gun, the first time you shoot it it starts to loose that special luster. By the time it has ridden a few months in a holster, it looks pretty run down.

My son bought a 1917 S&W .45ACP revolver that had made the rounds. (I think to cover the rust pits and heavy wear) It had been coated with Teflon. Looked OK, sort of a soft mat dark gray/black. It didn't take long until the coating began to wear through. Looked sad. I suspect that a better coating job would have lasted better.
The crain was not straight and the cylinder gap wobbled. It still shot fine.
An evenly worn blue job looks pleasing to me. This Teflon did not.

Enjoy,

I love blue and wood but to be practical and super lazy, stainless and rubber.
I owned one Nickle plated long ago and it was peeling and looking sad. You need to be careful with solvents.

Yep, i think nickle is at the bottom of the list for me! For looks, deep blue, for practical reasons, matte stainless. I'd be somewhat interested it a copper plated gun such as the Colt (I think??) that Elmer Keith talks about in Sixguns, he did mention that he only ever saw one like that, i can't say that it would be practical or even a good idea, but it would certainly look different!

Nckle guns are great for CC. There's no mistaking the gun for a wallet if you have to draw for some reason. Many police departments use nickle for the very same reason. People see the flash of the nickle and know it's a weapon.

That being said nickle's my least favorite too.

For a carry gun, stainless only, or maybe an old worn nickle finish. For me to to buy something I want - Blue, with a decent polish. My very favorite is the single actions - case hardened & blue. Mike

I love blued guns as well but I also hate to see the blue wear off
being somewhat practical I go for more and more stainless
