30/357 levergun

Do any of you have or have shot a 30/357 levergun? Tell me all you know about it. I've got a donor rifle ready but it really is a good 357 and i wouldn't modify it unless the 30/357 was really good.

I just want a plinker and maybe a cowboy silhouette gun. I would use the 32-20 but I want a .308 groove to use my existing molds.

Who would be a good gunsmith to do this project?

Buying new moulds would be far, far cheaper than making a rifle in a new caliber. That work needed wouldn't be cheap and then custom dies get spends too.
Buy a 32-20 and new moulds, you won't regret it.

I concur, and would add that an off the shelf 30-30 loaded with pistol bullets and fast shotgun powder will also do the same thing for a lot less cash.

I have often thought the 30/357 would be a neat thing to have, but every time I look at it I do something else and can't seem to make it happen. In single shots it does make sense, and even better is the rimmed Whisper in a Contender or Martini. But in lever guns, unless you could make everything needed to create it, it doesn't.

Another option, of course, is just get a light weight Lee 357 mould and shoot that. Total of about $20 and you're in business.

You can size .32-20 boolits down to .310 and they work great in the .30-30. 18 grains of H4227 gives you the equivalent of stout .32-20 and is close to POI of 150 grain boolit loads.

just get a 308 diameter 32-20 barell and use regular dies and 312 boolits in it.
