Ok, bought the rd mold from noe. I plan to run the bullets at 1700 fps'ish for metal plate shooting. Anybody try 2400 powder?

I've shot 16.0 grains under a Saeco 150gr FN. Shot OK. That charge would probably get you a littel over 1700 fps.

I have shot many, many 311 165 RD with 16 to 17 gr of 2400 in my Marlin. Right in the 1700 fps window.

not much to add. but it works the same with a 150gr rcbs and a 170gr lyman mold too.
just curious why 1700 fps is the velocity you want.

Looking for a light target load for metal plates. And economical to shoot using pistol powder

For me, the sweet spot appeared to be 17.5 grains 2400, 17.0 was about the same, 18.0 grouped larger, as did 16.5. 17.5 worked well on everything but rams for silhouette usage. Even there, it would hit 'em, but too often they'd remain standing.
