I see on Surplus Rifles a statement that Remington changed "some" of the hardware on the A3-03 to stamped/parkerized. Was some milled/blued stuff retained? If so, what do I use for hardware on my new C stock? Is there a particular mix? I have not found much stamped/parkerized stuff available, a lot of what is available appears to be blued/milled.

Generally when Remington changed from making 03s to 03A3s they changed from the milled to the stamped hardware. The milled of course is the most "desirable" since it looks nicer. When the rifles were made what was in the bin at the time it was assembled is what was used. No 03A3s ever had "C" stocks as built, so any hardware is fine. Some 03A4s may have had "C" stocks, but even some of the 03A4s had the "scant" style stocks. If you want to find the exact hardware appropriate for your sn go over to http://www.jouster.com/ and ask the experts on the 1903 forum.

03A3's had stamped parts and a receiver sight, it was enough of a change to warrant a new model. Bill Brophy's book has a chapter on it. They were made by Smith Corona typewriter mfg also. Parkerizing was done on rebuilds, S-C's may have been parked or a dull blue. All Remingtons that I've seen that weren't rebuilds had a parked barrel/receiver and the remaining stamped parts were blued.

If you see an an A3 with milled parts its been changed by somone, either privately or at a government arsenal. Same for a C stock, someone else installed it.

Rem 03A1's had some milled parts, some stamped. Looked like an 03 but they started making mfg shortcuts to increase production and save money/materials.

All the stock hardware you need should be stamped & parkerized.
