I'm wondering what the correct name for that pin is (roll pin?) and where I might look for a replacement (hardware store?)? I'd rather not have to contact S&W.

Go to StevesPages.com and look up the correct part number in his owners and parts manuals then go to Brownells.com and look up the part.
A lot of S&W parts are interchangeable from several different guns, have a suspicion this might be one of those.
You might find something at a ACE Hardware store if it is in fact a roll pin but somehow doubt it. Also anything you find at ACE will be a carbon steel pin and if I am not mistaken, S&W uses stainless steel.

Thanks for that tip. I went to Stevespages, and it's referred to as a 'firing pin retaining pin'. I can't find that exact name at Brownells. I did find a 'firing pin stop pin', but it's says "FITS: 22-A, .22; 22-S, .22". Link: http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/slide-firing-parts/firing-pin-parts/firing-pin-retaining-pins/firing-pin-stop-pin-prod15033.aspx

I may have to call S&W after all, or maybe I can call Brownells and they might know.

Also, do not hesitate to ask for help at Brownells , it's their Tech help. They really do know their stuff , will walk you right through it and can even set you up to order as they speak to you.

Did notice that in a lot of the numbering from the older S&W manuals and to the numbers Brownells refers to, that with the newer numbering has one more number in it, quite often a zero. If you order a 314-314 widget by the old number it is now shown as a 314-3140 ( or numbers to that effect ). From what I have seen, long as most of the numbers line up, it's the same part.

Also by cross checking between several different parts manuals or lists, the same part, as long as it is a simple part, will be used on a number of different guns. I.E., your firing pin retaining pin, some screws, sometimes coil springs, etc. Frames, hammers, triggers, cylinders, etc, are complex parts and are generally only used on that model.

Thank you for the advice. I'm looking forward to getting this wheel gun put back together.

A length of the right size paper clip would work in the meantime.
