I've been playing around with some of the OLD BP sabots (the BLS grey ones). I roll crimped some of them using a card that I punched out of .110 posterboard. Well, it seems that a Lee .50 minnie will carry said OS card to the 50 yd target and leave a full bore hole in the paper.
It didn't help accuracy one little bit, either.[smilie=1:
On the other hand, I had 4 shots touching with the same load and fold crimped.

While .110" sounds a wee bit thick for OS card, I am surprised it would stay with the slug that far.
I always wondered if an OS wad would be a problem with a large meplat slug but generally roll crimp and leave the nose exposed. Now I guess I know the answer!
Another lesson on what not to do. I have a few myself!
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah - .110 is a little on the thick side. I normally leave an open roll crimp, but wanted to check if accuracy was was affected w/ an OS card and these were all I had. I'll see if I still have the target and will get pics.
