I am looking at getting a lee six cavity mold but I'm casting using a ladle. I'm wondering if people are using a ladle for these larger molds also what techniques are being used to increase my bullet prOduction.

Any Cal.

I used a Ranch Dog w/ a good sized ladle and a camp stove. My production went way up when I went to a bottom pour pot due to the better temp control and having an extra hand to work with.

Use a big enough ladel to fill all 6 cavities in one pour.

It kind of depends on how big the boolits are that you are panning to cast. Here are two examples-- 1. A six cavity 314-120 that weighs 122 grains with my alloy is easily filled with an RCBS ladle. 2. With a six cavity 255 grainer I can fill four comfortably, so I started filling three cavities then refilling the ladle. It works fine, just takes a bit more time.

Plenty of choices.

Or if you are cheap, try modifying a S/S soup ladle or serving spoon from Goodwill.

Or weld/pop rivet a handle to a small can.

I've done it with a 6 cav Lee mold for 9mm 120gr. I have a standard RCBS ladle and I can fill all six with one dip. No problem. Worked OK. Mike

I have a gb 457420 that I fill with a ladle. Fill three, refill ladle, and fill the other three. Not a problem.

Do yourself a favor and buy the smallest Rowell bottom pour ladle from "The Antimony Man". He is on the web. You will not have a problem filling your six cavity.

I took your advice and ordered the No. 1 Rowell from hm this evening. Good equipment is just a pleasure to use : ) .

I just did my first run on a Lee 6 cavity .452 RNFP using a ladel and it went fine. Just tilt the mold a little to the side to get a good even pour and ensure your mold is pre heated pretty well and it'll go quick!

I use a ladle for all my casting. Just works better for me. 6-cavity, and even some 4-cavity molds, I use a #1 Rowell. I really like it. The bottom pour design keeps the crud out of the bullet mold. I can even pour my 6-cavity RD 457-325 in a single pass.
