Hey there, Harpman, how ya doin?

Click on the two links below and they will take you to the two main surplus powder vendors that I patronize. I don't know what they have in stock right now, so you will need to go check them both out.

I don't use a lot of fast powders for cast rifle loads and instead use full cases of the very slow .50 Browning and 20mm Vulcan powders such as IMR5010, WC860, and WC872. They are cheap enough so that full cases are economical to use. Full cases have very uniform ballistics and can deliver very good accuracy.

Harpman, Milsurp WC 820 (similar to AA #9) in small doses works in the .243Win. up to the .45-70 Gov't. I don't know whether it is suitable for shotgun loads though. For the 7.5 Swiss (in a K-31) I use 18.5gr.; 21gr. will suffice for the 8mm Mau.

Maven, do you find WC 820 to be position sensitive?

Linstrum, tried to access the hi-tech site using your link. Kept getting the web site not responding message. Frank

Jim, No, not really. I generally store the loaded rounds primer down, but some of the plastic cases require the opposite, e.g., 7.5 Swiss & 7.62 x 54R. However, before putting the loaded round in the follower, I tap the base to make sure the powder is settled. The low extreme spreads and standard deviations I get suggest WC 820 isn't very sensitive to position.

Maven, thanks. I just got in a couple of jugs and haven't had time to do much with it.

Hi, Frank46, Dan recently re-organized his Hi-Tech site to take online orders. I checked it out this evening (Weds Aug 31) and it is working okay again. I hope he has what you need, I noticed he is out of Super Slow and some other numbers.

HOO WEE! Frank, we sure can't have you running out of powder and brass now!

Here's the Hi-Tech phone and fax numbers and email "eddresses" for Steve and Dan:

1-800-468-8617
Fax (314) 275-8059
Emails: Steve - shuey1@mindspring.com or Dan - danjohnson1@mindspring.com

I re-copied the URL link directly from Hi-Tech's site in case it is corrupted, which happens regularly. So try this one:

http://www.hi-techammo.com/

I just used it to get there myself at 18:30 hours Pacific Daylight Time on Friday 9-2

Good Luck!
