Can anybody give me the front to back measurement of the cylinder?

Thanks in advance,

1.550" on mine.

Thanks 45nut.

Ok, so here's my idea for the Wheelgun Gurus. The .45 S&W Schofield listed MAX OAL I get from the Accurate Powders #2 manual is 1.430"

The rim diameter for the 45 Auto Rim is .516" and the .45 Schofield rim diameter is .522"

Rim thickness is .090" for the AR and .060" for the Schofield.

Converting a Smith 625 to .45 Schofield and experimenting with the extra case capacity gained (as well as a wider range of applicable powders) is where I'm going with this. Just an idea that has crossed my mind a time or two recently. The Schofield brass is available from Starline.

Don't have the gun yet or any money invested in brass, dies, etc.

Just thought I'd throw this up for matter of discussion. If it wouldn't work that's fine too. Maybe I'll learn something either way. Comments?

You've got the chamber dimensions and shape to contend with.
1. the Schofield is a short Colt +/-.
2. If you'r gonna alter the chambers you can go with Win.Mag or adapt .308 cases.
I know a fella who has a S&W (not shur if it began as a M25 or M29) which can shoot .45 Colts and .45 ACP's in the same cylinder. I've shot against him in an AP match. (He trimmed me good.) He won't sell the piece, I've tried.
Does this fit in with where you were goin'?

Above is my pair of 45acp wheelguns, the 625 and a 1917 Colt.
Below,from l-r 45win mag,45Rowland and 45acp in the 1/2 moon clip,45S&W Schofield and 45Colt loose round and brass,a full moon clip of 45acp.
Sitting on the open cylinder of the 625 is a 45S&W to show plenty of cylinder length with a 200gr swc, but there is certainly room for the 45WM as well, But, the cylinders will not accept a 45 S&W, 45 Rowland or 45WM in either gun.
Such a conversion with the 625 to the Rowland has been done, No_1 has one such 625, but the Colt metallurgy is certainly not up to the same pressures, and though they made the 1909 Models in 45Colt I would just as soon leave mine as-is for the lower pressure acp round. Maybe the 625 would handle the win mag round since it IS a N frame and would certainly be up for the 45 Schofield with CB's, again, I will leave mine as-is.
I also have a 25-5,

With the 8 3/8ths tube it may be capable of decent accuracy but for precision thump I prefer to bring out the 2 SRH 454's since they wear 4x Leupolds.

Why tweak a 625 when the platform performs so well as is and their are better options for the mo' power DA revolvers already out there?

After thinking about it I had to call a pal who was in on the building of the S&W with multi cal 45 cyl. The smith used a M29 so he could have a longer cyl and rebarreled to .45. It gave him more flexability in reloading.
Nice revolvers. I'm envious. Pepe Ray
