I go in this pawn shop about a week ago. They have a decent P-64 featherweight in 30-06. Price is reasonable, so I buy it. While I am there with a friend, he asks the owner to show me the old Sharps he bought last summer.

Guy brings the rifle out in a zipper case. Shiloh Sharps, #1 Sporter in 45-90. Overall, about 80% finish, wood and metal.

So far, just another decent shooter.

THE KICKER: Serial is EK100. EK as in Elmer Keith! Owner has a copy of Keith's will, where he lists the rifle, with serial number and bequeaths it to his grandson. Kid got serious hard up for $$$ and pawned it. Owner also has the pawn receipt with a photo copy of the kid's driver license and bill of sale.

That is about as ironclad as provenance gets my friends.

Yes, I'm trying to make a deal to acquire it.

If it comes to my house to live, I will post pictures.

Pray for me...

Unfortunately I am beginning to look at the Sharps type of rifles, especially the Shiloh in 45-70. I say unfortunately because I think I know it is going to cost me big money to scratch the itch. This post only makes it worse. I hope you get it and post pictures of it for us all to see.

Smoked Turkey, you are right, it takes a fair bit of money to scratch that itch. But it's worth every penny :-)

Chris.

A new Long Range Express is only $1959. However, there is a 14 month wait at the present.

In a hurry, www.goodmanforguns.com has a spot in about three weeks. He sells his spots for $200.

Keep an eye on Shiloh's web site they have a list there of available rifles. Fella has to be quick, as they put about a dozen at a time up and they get picked over pretty dang quick.

The owner tells me, face to face Friday at lunch, that "I will not sell the Keith rifle to anyone but you...". To me a man's word is his bond.

I forgot I was dealing with a pawn shop owner who is an emigrant from a middle eastern country. I think he is trying to boost the price by showing it with a high reserve.

I don't know you see alot of nonsense on gb. There's a C Sharps hartford over there, they've got priced at a grand or more over what a brand new one just like it would bring... go figure.
But yeh you're right about dealing with a pawn broker, those guys aren't playing on the level in the first place or they wouldn't be in the business they're in.

its been well over a week, if you didn't hand over any cash to have the gun on hold its not the evil pawn shop owners faults.

The rifle is leaning against the corner about three feet away.

Last Friday, I offered the owner $3000. He may have been a bit greedy. He told me he would only sell it to me, but he needed a couple days to think about it. I find it for sale on GB, that evening.
Auction ended Wednesday (iirc) at 2"30pm Idaho time. I went over the next morning, and the two owners are arguing about selling it to me. The one who gave me his word wants to sell for the auction top bid. The older one thinks it is worth more. I went back today after taking my lovely wife out to lunch. They told me that their reputation was more important than a couple hundred dollars.
Ends up, I buy the rifle for $2600, since that is $100 more than the bid.

I do not know why it sold so low, but I am NOT complaining.

Now to get to work load testing and be ready for Quigley.

hickstick 10, I do not know how you all do business in Canada, but in Idaho a man's word is his bond.

It`s real. I`ve seen it.Hell, I fondled it. I`m Rich`s brother, so I ought to get first drooling rights. The hilarious part is that our older brother(EDK) thinks that EK is HIS initials! Uhh...........NO.
