Nice job... what kind of rifle is that muzzleloader?

Looks like a Remington with cartridge cylinder? Maybe a copy of the Colt Sheriff? What did you end up with in your hot hands?

I'm guessing that the rifle is an underhammer design. Just something else to cause extreme salivation!

Its a Mowery 50cal Bicentennial #156 of 500. Sounds like a great find until you google it! No real value!!! Has a ball stuck in it with the ramrod broke. I think some one tried to shoot it after the estate sale but they wont admit it.If it does not shoot good Im going to re-barrel it to a fast twist 32 for maxi. There is just so much Pyrodex and triple 7 and I don't really want to shoot it. Pistols are unfired (?) and have a bunch of new in the box cylinders with them. The Remington small rifle primers really had my attention.

Just out of curiosity, if you are going to rebarrel it, why at 1-32 and not say 1-24 or nearby? Here is a site I found surfing this weekend might help you decide.... http://kwk.us/twist.html

Much Aloha, 8-)

Post was not clear. I have not decided on a twist yet. Just saying a 32cal and fast twist. Been thinking of a under hammer for 100 yard plinking in a 32 cal. Ended up with this so may be a good option. A box lock is not my favorite but it is different.

I took the Mowery rifle action apart and it seems that there is some wear that allows the hammer to be pushed out of line with the nipple. I will to put in on the mill and true up the inside and make some type of thrust washer to keep it from wearing again.
