Rewiring help please

A friend gave me his Lee 500W/120V casting furnace. Rats had eaten through the exension cord.:roll: What size wire do I use to rewire the unit?

6' or 8' cord? 14 gauge should be heavy enough.

What size is there now?

That size, or larger.

500 watts - you can get by with 18 AWG just keep it under 6' or so long.

16 AWG would be better the cost is not much more.

The cord is 18AWG wire, similar to standard household extension cord wire. It only carries 7A and 18 AWG is rated at 14A so there is plenty of margin.

Thanks for the quick responses. There is nothing but bare copper left. Those rats did a number on that wire!
