I load 33.0 of 296 behind a 300 LFN in my FA83.

With 300 XTP and 30.5 gr W296 will get 1995 fps out of my Rossi Puma!

Gunnut, does the XTP hold up to the spead? Have you used it on game?

I use 32 grs H110/296 behind the 300 XTP Mag and have had consistent 2,150 fps out of a 20" H&R Handi Rifle. It does horrible things to hogs. I wouldn't use it on deer because the expansion is more than I would like. I hit one hog at about 50 yards that was quartering away over a small ridge line just above the shoulder and it took a huge chunk of meat and spine out, left the head canted forward on tissue. Another was a broadside on the hoof and I led it too much, took the upper jaw, snout and most of the forward part of the upper skull, including both eyes. Bad shot. It stopped him for an easy follow-up, but I'm not real proud of that one. Dropped back to 26 grs in the Colt case with the 250 gr SST and got big holes without explosion...

Beartooth 300 LFN GC over 29 grs H110 is just about 1,800 fps and punches big holes in black bear but doesn't expand as violently as the 300 gr XTP.

For the 290gr you mention, 29 grs W296 seems like a good start.
