Hi,
Today, I picked up a few molds that a guy had advertized. I have a RCBS Lube Sizer 2, new, shipped, . . . should be here next week. The guy with the molds has a Star Lubsizer, with .44 and .45 sizing dies, and 4 extra tubes of lube thrown in, for $175. What should I do , Godfather, what should I do?

You'll have non-buyer's remorse big time. That's a good deal on the Star. That's about 80 bucks worth of dies and lube with that. Makes the price of the Star about 100 bucks. If you don't want it, I do!

Just the thought of being able to size 500 boolits in 20 min. Na those things are JUNK. sell it to me...

A really good buy. Now the fun begins

You'd be dumb not to buy the STAR!

Jeff, at that price, if you don't have the cash borrow it! It is that good of a deal.

Jeff, If you haven't, already, buy that Star. Heck, the two dies are worth 70 bux anyway.
So, go forth and get that. No buyers remorse necessary. Mike

Honey, . . . We have a new Lubsizer!!

Yesterday afternoon, I called the guy back and he still had it. I went back and got it. It looks like yet another learning curve, and I still haven't cast a bullet yet.

Don't worry there, Dark Helmet. The slush fund covered it.

Like he said, it came with two dies and some lube.

What are the properties of this lube? Is there a better one? I was thinking of Carnauba Red, after reading about lubes. I was also able to get a really good deal on some molds.

There are some interesting ones, like a 45.70 "collar button" boolit, as he called it. I guess I have been of kind of a spree. I'll have to put the brakes on it for a while. The good news is, I can stop any time I want.

Thanks for your interest and comments!
Jeff

Hey Jeff, You picked the right crowd to show off your Boolit mold porn. You've got us all salivating at the pictures. Please tell what they are? Good going btw...

That H&G looks really nice. The others look good too. You did really good, son. Congrats. You're gonna be really, really glad you got that Star - and the other stuff. Mike

Ah, the collar button - a 120gr 45-70 mold! Do you have a 45-70? This one was made for indoor gallery shooting. I've loaded three of them in one shell. Lot of fun.

Hi Wayne,
I have two 45-70 rifles. A Browning 1885 Highwall and a Marlin Guidegun. I had been shooting swaged round balls out of them, powered by 10 gr. of Unique. I jumped at the chance to get the collar button mold. My pot came on Monday, and I had my first casting session Monday night, using that mold. After some feedback, I believe that I did not have my pot, ladle and mold hot enough, but these should still shoot OK

I don't have a lubesizer die for 45-70 yet, so last night I tumble lubed a handful of them with LLA. I'll shoot some tomorrow. I made up 4 dummy rounds and the great news is that they will feed from the magazine in my Guide Gun. The round balls had to be single loaded. It should be great fun. I have tomorrow off from work, so I'll try to cast more of them.
Regards,
JR

Wayne, you said 120 grains for the collar button... What brand? I've had some Lymans that I'm pretty sure were 145 grains.

Jeff, you've probably already gotten some pm's about the collar button mold but I'll ask here, if you are interested in selling it, I'd be interested. Almost sounds like you bought a "group lot" of molds and maybe not all of them are ones you plan to use, hence the question. If you have plans for it, more power to ya. You'll like 'em. They are pretty easy to load with the Lee Loader kit which is easily adjusted down for the shorter bullet seating. The crimp location is the odd part. There is no crimp groove. I've done them just behind the forward band but the gap behind the case there is HUGE. I've tried them just forward of the forward edge but they can push back into the case if you're not careful when loaded in the tube. I've also done it right in the middle of the forward band which seemed to work ok but I had concerns about damaging that surface effecting accuracy. It's still a work in progress but I'm running out of the boolits I had.

I think I made a mistake, mine are 150gr, not 120. Mine was made by Walt Melander before he died.
