hi guys , picking brains here would like to buy a 4 + cavity mold to cast 160 gr + SWC [ no heavier than 180 grs], and must be able to fit a K or L frame S&W.
going to start teaching new shooters with . 38 or .357 sixguns and will require a production mold , either lyman or rcbs . would have to cast a accrucate round and one that would be easy to cast , sorry trying not to be picky.
any sugestions ???
many thanks, rojo

rojo,

Understand that I am not a Lee fan in most of their products.

However, their 6 cavity molds are an OK quality for what they cost.

I bought 2 of the 6 cavity molds some months back for use in .38/.357.

Would have bought one for the .44, but they didn't have any good designs.

I don't do tumble lube, and their styles are limited in those with lube grooves.

Not a great style in the .38/.357 molds I bought, but for what they'll be used for, they will be OK

When I cast for handguns, I like to team cast with the two of us using 4 - 5 molds.

We make a lot of bullets in a couple 3 hours in this way.

I prefer mold of 4 or more cavities.

This one is 150 grain SWC. Swede has many molds. Contact him and see what he has in stock. I have a 360160 SWC 5 cavity mold from him and it is awesome.

VHoward,

Thanks for the link.

I went to the site and some of the styles I couldn't get to enlarge for a good look.

Something in a .44 with a WFN and about 265 - 280 grains is what I'm thinking about.

As said, could get a good look on most that I tried.

Rojo,
Look at Lee's 358-158 RF, available in a six-cavity version.

Yes,

I have 2 of the 6 cavity Lee 358-158 RF molds sitting here, NEW, waiting for me to get off my duff and do a run of boolits.

Not a bad looking profile, almost a WFN, BUT!! wish it was not a bevel base design.

For what I'll use them for, it will do, but am not a bevel base fan and wish it wasn't part of this mold design.

AS I indicated earlier, I wish they had a decent design in a .44 as I'd probably bought one of those at the same time as the 2 for the .38/.357.

Will need to go to a custom mold maker to scratch that itch.

Not as good as the custom mold makes turn out, but a lot of bullets for the buck.

I don't care for the bevel base, neither, but like the wide meplat and the holes it makes.

If only Lee would make that design in .44 caliber.

Tom at Accurate Molds can get you set up, won't be as cheap though but top line and he will make a mold of any design you give him.
