I have been cleaning up my workshop and came across a bunch of bullets someone gave me a long time ago. They are .45 cal, like for a .45/70 and when I measured their hardness with my Lee hardness tester, they come out like BHN 21. This means they are pretty much straight up linotype, right? I hate mystery metal. If it casts successfully and shoots well, it's nearly impossible to duplicate, but I was thinking about mixing this with some soft lead and casting some rifle bullets out of it. There's only about 10 lbs of it, so there isn't enough to do all that much with.

linotype orrrr a waterdropped nearly ww alloy.
i'd whack one with a hammer.
waterdropped will be fairly malleable, the lino not so much.

Melt a few down and pour an air cooled sample to test for hardness right after pouring, may be just HT ww + pb. Test for hardness in a couple days too.
