What would be the approximate hardness of a mix of 50% clip on wheelwgt and 50% linotype ?

I have used this forever for all my 357, 41, 44 mag handgun bullets, whether for target loads or magnum. Seems fairly hard and it casts really nice at a setting of 650 degrees on my old 20 lb SAECO ladle type pot. After doing a fair amount of reading on here, and given that my linotype supply is no longer that great, I'm thinking this much linotype is not really needed. Opinions ?

I would like to purchase a hardness tester - is there a thread or sticky on here that discusses pros and cons of various brands ?

Thanks !

For handgun bullets, don't waste the Linotype. I would be using 50/50 COWW / pure.

For my needs, straight clip ww work fine for magnums & 45-70 to 1400fps+. Adding lino helps casting & gets them harder but a 50/50 mix is rich IMO. A 4-1 ratio works great, but you can achieve sim results water quenching clip ww.
You should be somewhere around 17BHN, about WQ hardness. Use the 4-1, still getting 15BHN+, about like Lyman #2.

I'd say closer to 18.

50 Pb/ 50 Lino will be about 16.
