Gas Check Bullet Question

Assuming I have a proper bullet fit, how fast can I push a gas checked bullet?

Simple question , very complicated answer.

That number ( speed ) is dependent on about 37 factors and variables. Without all that accurate data , I doubt anyone could offer you an absolutely accurate answer to your question.

Pistol or rifle?

You should be able to run pistols at full house loads.
Rifles are more touchy. On the average it seems most guys run around 2000fps with 30 cal give or take. Other cals vary.

Probably should stick to shooting factory ammo if you have a need for speed.

Hmm, I was afraid of that. Perhaps I should elaborate a bit. I'm interested in loading for my Mosin and given the fast that most bores run around .312" I thought I would have a bigger selection of bullets if I bought some cast rounds. I'm thinking I could probably get the caster to size them appropriately for me, after I slug it of course. However, typical velocity for the 7.62x54R is around 2600 FPS or so, and I really don't want to lose performance if I don't have to. That's what made me start thinking about gas checks, but if all I can get out of them is 2,000 FPS I'll probably just stick with jacketed bullets, perhaps something designed for a .303 Brit. Before I buy anything though I'll slug my bore, maybe I'll get lucky and I can use a .308 bullet. The gun was built in Russia though so I doubt it.

I would think that if you are using a reloading manual for your reloading data, you would already have that answer.
