Buy ammo now, as much as you can?

It's crazy how things have turned out.

I'm glad I don't buy ammo. Sort of. 22rf is all. I have enough to last me 3 years or so.

Primers and powder I have enough to last for about 2 years.

And you cant buy 22rf either! I was at the local Wallyworld last night and all they had was about 6 boxes of CCI 22rf, and about 10-12 boxes of rifle ammo, all calibers combined. They are limiting ammo to 3 boxes of ammo per customer/per day. I paid more for the three boxes of CCI than I paid for the last brick of 22rf that I bought about a year ago!

And I just noticed that Powder Valley has stopped taking back-orders. They said that they dont know when product will be available, so there is no use backordering it. WOW

I found a store with ammo shelves full. I wasn't looking for ammo but happened to stop in a small town hardware store and their ammo hasn't been hit yet (no I won't tell where). They had a pretty good selection of calibers but not a lot of any particular type. I actually bought a box of .45-70, they actually had several boxes in each of two different loadings (of course I chose the 405 grain lead flat nose over J word).

So check the out of the way places where most people wouldn't expect ammo to be found. And leave some for the next guy.

For some reason the ammo and component shortage just hasn't hit me....

On the positive side if I had not started casting my own boolits due to lack of ammo on the shelves I would not have found this site.

I told co-shooters I was going to buy:
AR upper and Lower kit
Some AR mags for use with the future build
A couple of jugs of Promo
Few thousand primers

Did none of the above and now it is WAY TOO LATE

Some of us learned a long time ago.......Save Up!! And not just because of times like these, but when you collect C&R's, if it's a good price and plentiful, it doesn't hurt to have extra hold up in an old military ammo can. .303 British a good example. Back in the '80's it was plentiful, and fairly cheap. Now, not so much. Also a good reason to reload and cast.

Plus I get to visit you yaahoo's.:lovebooli

A friend was in our local (45 mi. away) Walmart yesterday and she said the only ammo was one box of 30-06, period.

It is not just guns and ammo you should be accumulating but also other things you and your family will need to survive in hard times. Remember the 7 years of feast and 7 years of famine:

Some ammo I buy whenever I see it. I never pass on 8x56R Hungarian. It's cheaper to buy live ammo than virgin brass.

I remember the thread. I also remember a few members giving him **** because "Threads like this is what cause panic buying" or some such garbage. I hope they enjoy the taste of crow.

Been through this three times now. Learned early on to get enough when the prices were down and stocks full. Slowly built up reserves over time. Never had to eat crow and not eating crow now. This latest one seems most serious. Have enough supplies, so this frenzy is more entertainment than worry for me. But I'm reading the "tea leaves" for the future and not taking it lightly. Just ordered some Jbullets today that have flown under the radar only because they are not in the "category" of most that are disappearing fast. But I know once these are gone from stocks the manufacturers may never get back to making them or supplying them or maybe even being able to import them.

If they had 300 gr 45-70' go get a box for so you will like it better.

I stood in line for 45 minutes at Sportsmans Warehouse this morning waiting for them to unload the Friday shipment.
One line at the gun counter for primers and powder - limit 1 box or bottle per SKU per customer and another line at the front of the store for ammo - I think the limit there was 3 boxes per caliber per customer. The dirty trick was you had to choose one line or the other if you were alone.
The prices are still relatively normal for primers at $31.99/thousand. Brand choices were limited to 2 ... "Take it or leave it". Ended up with Federal Large Pistol and CCI Small Rifle.

I'd get 500 grainers if they had them, gotta make those myself. This is ammo for my "Manley Handgun" and I need some extras for this weekend to give the junior rifle club a chance to try it.

Are we crediting Jim with PREDICTING the shortages or CAUSING them?

We are crediting Jim for being old, predicting the shortage, creating the shortage, and possibly having something to do with global warming. 8-)

There ya go, Jim, show em the teflon coating. (It all slides right off).
Personally, I think it was Mr. Bill what made the prediction and Jim just passed it along. Looks to me like Mr. Bill has plenty o time for contemplatin' whilst lying around stakin claim on various of Jim's possessions. ?
We all know that Jim only dreams of coon huntin, not shortages of ammo, primers and powder.
