10 mm

Matt just came home with a Rock Island 10mm and a couple boxes of factory. Does anyone run cast in this? I have Lee's 175's and 145 for my 40 and hope to be able to come up with a load. First manual showed AA9 loads, anyone running WC820?

If you run a nice 170-grain lead semi hard cast bullet, you can probably obtain the same performance that was extracted from the original JHP loads by John Taffin. 13 grains of AA#7 behind that hollow point for 1324 fps from a 5" Delta Elite barrel.

ive shot thousands of the lee 175s in my 10s. I use a bit less powerful load though. I usualy run mine with 12 grains of aa9 or wc820. Its a pretty high pressure round so youll want them cast fairly hard. I do mine in 5050 ww/lyno or water dropped ww.

I shoot the RCBS 200gr bullet out of my Kimber. I load with a full charge of Blue Dot for around 1250fps.

This is where the 10mm should perform, providing penetration in a hunting setting. When the 165-180 grain bullets are driven to 1300+ fps, a jacketed hollow point generally will expand violently, creating extensive temporary crush cavitation. Some permanent stretch cavitation can virtually be assured.

The 10mm was initially designed as a defensive military pistol cartridge, whose initial effective range is more than twice that of the .45 ACP. It works well for both hunting and personal defense.

I also have a 10mm, having good luck with the Lee 170 but with a PB gas check (so I can use my normal lead mix of range scrap + a little wheel weights). I'll look when home for load of WC820 I use (LOVE that powder !!)

14 grains of wc820 (lot # 47320) and a 175 grain magma is my practice load in a g 20

I only shoot 230g boolits @ 1135fps, use waterdropped range scrap lubed w/ a franken-lube w/ some Tac 1 added. I get minor leading in the last inch of barrel, it opens up groups 1 1/ 2" @ 25 yds and never gets worse, so I run with that. I don't think you have to baby 10mm loads or use GCs unless you do the air-cooled lead.

Back again, 14.5g WC 820 with the Lee 170 most data show ~15g AA9 - I think I have a fast batch of 820, 15g was starting to crater primers 14.5 is a real toe tapper though !!!

If you plan on carrying the RIA for personal defense, you might want to lean toward the 155-165 grains running out the barrel at "hell-bent-for-election" velocities. Your best bet would come from Double Tap Ammunition. The bullet that puts an aggressor "down for the count" is:

a) going to cost you $1,000,000 in court costs and attorney fees, and

b) will be the one that saves your life.

In the long run, it will be worth every penny.
