I think this kit is so neat. Its an OLD Lyman casting and reloading kit I got with a No5 Mk1 purchase today. The kit is complete and the instructions are there so I may try the old bird out.

Wow , what a nice piece of history !
Good to see it feel into the hands of someone who appreciates it and did not just toss it into the trash.

Just might be worth as much as the No5 Mk1, if not today then in the future Keep it in pristine condition.

If that setup is in 303 British, reloading tool and mould, you hit the jackpot....SWEET.

I'm green with envy. I wish I would have had the good sense to buy several of those when they were available. It does bring back good memories though.

The mold in the handles is an IDEAL .311 299 465 I know .311 is the diameter, but what is the other numbers

The kit is in great shape every thing moves freely. The mold has very slight surface rust on it. I'm going to take 0000 steel wool to it. And then I'm gonna coat everything in Aero Kroil. And put it all in a zip lock freezer bag and let it sit.

My next question is Do I actually USE this set? Or do I list it on Ebay and let a collector buy it? I kinda want to use it. The hand press (310 tool?) is Aluminum the rest of the pieces are steel.

I'd use the heck out of it. .303 ain't cheap.

I'd just hold on to it if it were mine. It can't do anything but increase in value. I'm sure there are collectors out there who would pay good money for it though.

Anyone know what those number on the IDEAL mold that is in the kit stand for. I posted them above

Nice, wish I could find those kind of goodies. Right now it's a two year old leaving things for me to find....

It should be the same boolit as the Lyman 311299.

If I am interpreting correctly, you have a set of mould blocks for the Lyman pattern bullet with a nominal 311 diameter, style # 299 and blocks that were numbered 465 on both halves so that they could be kept together.

If the set is unused now, it might be worth keeping it that way, otherwise it won't hurt anything to use away! :) There has been lots of discussion on this board from time to time about using the Ideal and Lyman 310 tools like you have there, and there is nothing unusual about the bullet mould and dipper... if you are a reader of this forum they should be familiar to you already. The instructions in the kit, IIRC, are pretty thorough as well. All you need now is some lead alloy and a pot to melt it in, some fired brass from that rifle (your 310 tool neck sizes only) and some of the correct primers and powder, and you will be good to go. At one time Lyman made additional tools to pan lube the bullets, size them with the tong tool, and even full length size the brass with an unthreaded die that was used with a hammer or vise. A search of this forum will give you info about those items as well as a wealth of info about the 310 tool. Enjoy your new acquisitions.

I'd keep it as is. I wouldn't use it. It could be a fantastic start for a collection dedicated to reloading. Congrats

If you decide to sell, I would put it up for auction on this site. That way it would go to someone who would appreciate it for what it is.

I'll second that... I'd surely bid, probably couldn't afford to win, but nice to dream!

I would use it with no reservations whatsoever. They are tools and that is what Lyman intended.

Too rare to use. I started with one in .30/06....let's see, 50 something years ago. Made acceptable cartridges until I learned about FL resizing and lubricator/sizers. Not many survived, complete, with box and all components. You have a gem there./beagle
