I dont know if some one could give me some info on a broken S&W 629 but here goes i have a S&W 629 5 5/8 barrel and i some how broke the part that moves the cylinder from round to round.could some one tell me if its a hard and costly fix.

That would be the part called the hand.
This is usually a fitted part. But sometimes Will fit ok and work ok,
but the timing may be off.

I'd have it installed by someone who will get it right the first time.

thank you for the info.any idea about how much that would cost to have one of them fit to my gun a ball park?

If you have a local gunsmith, they can do it for about half of what it would cost to send it back to the factory.
I'm guessin', $35-$50 including the part.

thats not to to bad.I love the gun and my dad gave it to me years ago so i rilly need it to be in working order.Thank you vary much

call S&W and sent it back to them to repair it...they may not charge you ...nice people to deal with.

Only if it is 1990 or later. Just was on the website and talked to them.

It was a used gun when my dad got it is thare a way i can tell what year it was made in by the vin number?

If not get a oversized hand from Power Custom that can be fitted to your gun for perfect lock up . also avalible from Brownells.

I'd RUN from a gunsmith that would fit a hand to a N frame S&W for $25-30 including
the part! I think the part will cost about $25, but have not bought one recently.

A properly done hand could take between 15 minutes and an hour to do right, depending
on the condition of the gun. Most smiths are going to want at least $30 for labor,
plus the part.
