Lyman Devastator for 44-40 Winchester model 1892?

Hello Guys:

I am (relatively) new to bullet casting and have just bought a (Miroku) Winchester model 92 in 44-40 that I would like to reload for. I am fond of the devastator molds from Lyman and was wondering if this mold and cast bullet would be suitable for that rifle:http://www.midwayusa.com/product/198535/lyman-1-cavity-bullet-mold-429640-44-special-44-remington-magnum-430-diameter-250-grain-devastator-hollow-point-gas-check ?
It seems like it would make for a good hunting round on deer. Any thoughts? I appreciate your response!

Welcome to the forum. The Winchester '92 maximum cartridge length is 1.60"....1.59" would be better. A cartridge with that bullet crimped in the crimp groove is longer than that and will not feed in the '92. You would have to seat the bullet deeper and crimp over the front driving band.

According to one of the users in the link, it performed well on deer but no velocity was mentioned.

Thanks so much for your response! From the initial lack of response, I was beginning to think that I had asked a really stupid question. I'll do more research on other bullet choices, maybe there are better options.

many 44-40 rifles have twist rates based on the 200 gr boolit the round was developed with.
and some use a more contemporary twist rate from the 44 mag round allowing heavier boolits
funny that some company's are using the older 44-40 twist rate for their 44 mag rifles which hampers them to using 200-225 gr bullets.
