I heard that there is a book out there with the manufacture dates of S&W's from the serial number. Does anybody have this book and if so, could you please help me out. I will not send Smith $50.00 for that info.
Thanks

The guys on the smith forum are pretty cool with looking up manufacturing dates for guys. I was cool just knowing that my -3 was between 67-69.

Supica's book does a pretty good job. I can look see if you post the serial# and dash#. (the dash# will be under the cylinder crane on the frame, should be something like 19-3, etc.)

Here are the numbers from my S&W Model 19
bottom of grip: ACM87xx
inside of crane: MOD 19-5
Any help on year of manufacture would be greatly appreciated!

OK
Supica's book lists the following: Production change 19-5 began 1982. Next change, 19-6, began 1988.
The ACM serial prefix is 1983. But Supica also states those prefixes were not consistent and could have been used earlier than listed. So best guess on manufacture year would be 1982 or 1983 with most likely being 1983.

Thank you very much! It looks like I won't be sending it into Smith being it was made before 1989. The barrel is canted to the left by one line, making the gun shoot low left with the rear sight centered. I can adjust the rear sight for a good zero but just the thought that the barrel is canted ever so slightly is like having a itch that you can't reach. There is a good Gun Smith down the road from me that I will give a call. I was hoping to use my next gun allowance for some work on my original trapdoor, but this Model 19 looks new and I want it to be perfect.

That canted barrel is not uncommon in revolvers. If your gunsmith is used to working on them, should be a very easy tweak for him unless it is way off or if the cylinder face to barrel/forcing cone clearance is way out of spec.

After putting a 10x loup on it, it is the rear sight bar that screws into the top strap that is off ever so slightly. I'm am going to order me a Galco owb holster and carry it just as it is. Thank you to all that chimed in!
