I have a Remington 788 in .308. It cam in pieces and the receiver screws are missing. I think that the front screw is a 1/4 x 28 or 1/4 x 32. I think that the rear screw is a 12 x 28 or 12 X 32. Can anyone confirm this? Thank you in advance.

Thank you Junior. I had the front picked, but missed the rear. Might you know a place where I could buy a couple of these?

That is 1/4 X 28 and a 10 x 32...

Those are common bolt/screw sizes and should be available at most hardware or auto parts stores but they may not be black. Brownells or Numrich could also supply you with the screws.

Fastenall is worth a try.

I sell circa 200 different gun/scope screws here http://www.castbullet.com/screws.htm and my 10-32 MIGHT fit, but you'd probably have to alter the head. It's in black oxide or SS. I don't stock the other one. Like Larry said, a full-size hardware store is your best bet if Brownells doesn't have them. I'd talk to a Brownells tech person if I were you. Understand they're as busy as a pair of jumper cables at a redneck picnic.

Fastenall is worth a try.they had a low profile screw that some use in other bolt actions, the 700 muzzle loader maybe. Which is 1/4-28......it was an Allen screw.

Here is am example at fastenal, not sure on your lengths.

Here is the main directory. Stainless has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion though and carbon steel would actually be the better choice for that reason.

Numrich lists both front & rear guard screws, but is currently sold out of the rear screw.
