I took the bolt out to do a chamber cast, by following instructions -- bolt to the rear, lift the extractor, rotate the bolt counter clockwise.

I can't figure out how to reinstall it. The instructions I have say to push in the bolt until the lug clears the receiver bridge, push down on the extractor, and rotate the bolt clockwise, at which point the extractor will snap back in place.

When I attempt to do that, I can only make about 1/4 turn, and then the lug is against the bottom of the receiver and I can't turn the bolt any further. I'm doing something obvious wrong, but I can't see it. Please help?

Never mind. I overcame my own stupidity. I'd moved the collar holding the extractor. Thanks anyway.

I was real impressed by a friend who figured out how to disassemble/reassemble a Krag bolt without any instructions!

I do appreciate the thought.

Bolt assembly/dissembly can be fun when I try to figure it out all by myself.
My memory is going so even Mosin bolt seems sometimes like chinese puzzle.

Wow. Removing a Mosin bolt is easier than taking the slide off my FIE Titan .380; I found it so easy I did it every time I needed to safe my rifle at Appleseed. Now, disassembling and reassembling the Mosin bolt is a little more complex (especially since you have to set the firing pin protrusion every time), but still simpler than a lot of the stuff I fix every day at work...

You can download a free PDF of the original Krag manual here.

Ha, i can relate to this, I had a hard time figuring how to get it out even after reading written instructions. I did get it back in with relative ease though.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I didn't find a PDF of the manual at all. I did find a Google digitization of the manual, and I guess if I had an Android "mobile platform" "registered" with Google I might be able to download a PDF?? Am I missing something here?

Oh, and I can read it on-line, just have to sign in to Google. But I don't see any way to download from there either.
