I would like to make or modify a lube size die for my Saeco. Just looking for anyone that has any pointers.

I know the star size dies are harden. So it makes it difficult to open them up.

Isn't it Lathesmith who makes Saeco size dies to order. I think Buckshot will do it too.

I have opened SAECO dies a couple thou using emery cloth. The hadrening seems to be about .001 deep. After that, things go quick. I'm not a machinist. Is that a huge obstacle?

If someone provided such a modification service, I'd be ordering several right away.

Lathesmith made an "odd" sized Saeco die for me. He does good work.

60385 I thought I'd post the photo's of the finishing of the sizing die. Here it is chucked up in the indexer to drill the lube holes.60387 Lube holes drilled
60388 Back to the lathe to finish hone the interior
60389 Turning the interior piece
60390 Set up for threading
60391 Threaded
60392 Relief cut
60393 Presto.....lube/size die for .510
60394 Fits like a champ
60397 Lubed

wool1, what did you use for the lead angle at the top of the die?

The reason I ask is I have 4 SAECO luber sizers and the dies have a small lead on them to allow you to seat the gas check before sizing.

I ground a hss bit similar to how I grind them to crown a barrel, set the cross feed at a shallow angle and just kissed them open at the mouth of the die.
