Recently I contacted Buckshot about HP'ing a couple of Lyman molds for me - - - a 225415 and a 257312. The molds arrived a few days ago.

I couldn't be happier with this work. Buckshot really does great work ! !

Here are some photos of the 225415 and the 257312 in their new HP form.

The 1st photo - - 225415 HPs

Wow, those are awesome! I like how you have the 257's stacked in your pic. Makes them look like little HE varmint artillery! LOL Make sure you let us know how they shoot & perform on critters.

Yes, please do let us know how they shoot - I will be very curious as I have a .25-20 I'd like to cast HP's for.

Thanks,
John

...............Ben isn't saying, but I make the HP pin too big for his 25 cal and it was tough to get a good slug. Those 25's you see are from his own modifications to the HP pin, so a 'Tip o the hat' to ole Ben for the salvage job :-)

Those bullets sure look great and so does the modified mould! I was wondering how much the conversion cost, and then how much would it cost on a Lee 6 cavity?

Ben:

Could you post side (mould seam) and end pics of the 25 cal.?

Thanks.

............Now Ben ole son, let's be honest here :-), and give credit where it's due!

"xpshooter, Those bullets sure look great and so does the modified mould! I was wondering how much the conversion cost, and then how much would it cost on a Lee 6 cavity?"

..............The conversion is $28 + shipping and that's for ONE cavity. A lee 6 cav could be done, but just one cavity and it might be toward the middle. It has to swing across the lathe's bed.

If a person had a really good drill press, like an older American made one that had 2 bearings in the quill (that were still in good shape) and a good quality chuck you could also do it. It's merely a matter of finding center, and having the Z axis (up and down) co-incident to the cavity's axis. You'd also need a decent vise, and one can be had that is accurate in 2 axis to .0002" for about $50. You'd then be relying to a degree on the block's ouside squareness to the cavity.

It isn't brain surgury, it's all in an accurate setup. If you have that, all it is is drilling a hole. Assuming you have the DP table trammed perpendicular to the quill and an accurate vise, the hot setup would be to hold a test indicator in the chuck. Let it read on a drive band about halfway down the cavity. Then rotate the quill to read all the way around the cavity.

You'll need a mirror to see the TI on the backside. Shift the vise, or shim the blocks in the vise to get a .000"/.000" reading all around. You'll get a bounce across the parting lines. So long as it's the same, and perpendicular to them the TI reads the same, you're home free.

Buckshot do you ever have any problems with soldering , led sticking to the hollow point pins on the ones you make?

A tip of the hat for Ben's photography, too. I have a collection of correspondence with him that I maintain for the picture quality as well as textual content.

Ben, I've had no access to the MSN mail site for a while. I gotta have one of the kids dope it out and fix it--FINALLY, a little payback for all those brake jobs.
