With the constant rise of anything traded globally, I have to scale back. Not wanting to sacrifice quality means that I have to get nice .22 rimfires.

I hear ya. My Henry H001T and Ruger Single Six are going to be working pretty hard this year. Are those Walthers?

You mean you actually shoot/use anything other than rimfires Andyd?

Dad used to say "buy the best you can afford" , the guys here will tell ya " buy once , cry once" . Both ideas have a lot of wisdom in them .

My MKII Target and U22 Neos see more range time than of my centerfire pistols. And my 10/22 used to see more time until I picked up an 1894C. Now I'm looking for a good lever action 22 that you don't have to tube load. I don't know if any even exist.

I've got the only rimfires I'll need (or be able to afford) soon -- a Marlin 795 and a 1970-ish High Standard Sentinel Deluxe. The revolver will shoot any combination of Short, Long, Long Rifle, Colibri or other "quiet" rounds, and even nail gun power loads as blanks. The Marlin has the longer range accuracy needed to hunt squirrels and rabbits, and a dovetail to mount a scope if I can ever afford one.

Sure hope the 250 or so rounds of .22 LR I have on hand last a while, though -- can't seem to buy ammunition...

They are Hämmerlis, the upper is a 212 Jägerschaftspistole, based on the pre-war Walther Jägerschaftspistole. After the war those were made by Hämmerli in Switzerland and finally evolved into the 208.

Oh, once in a while I have to shoot up my cast bullets. There had to be a reason, why I came over here. Cast bullets do well in my revolvers and in my SIG P210, even in my Lugers and P38.

But I do indeed have a weakness for rimfires, even tried to shoot them out of my Python.

And you know what? It worked.

When my sons were little, I always had a S&W 22A in the range bag and we used that as a "warm up" and to get a good timing in target acquisition. We shot over 100,000 rounds through that thing in less than ten years. I don't think that there is a single other gun that I own that has anywhere as many rounds through it.

When I was 16 (Mid 60s)I bought a Western Auto 22 semi-auto ( Marlin model 60) .
Back then I fired many rounds through it and had a ball doing so, and I still have it.
There was not a can or bottle at the landfill that was safe from my 22.
15 years ago I bought a Ruger 10/22.

Hadn't shot the WA gun in years until a couple months ago.
I forgot how much fun a 22 could be, and I don't have to worry about losing brass.
The 10/22 is fun, but the WA is more fun.
It got to be so much fun shooting with friends at the club that I decided to get a 22 handgun.
Got a new GSG 1911-22 last Tuesday and it is a ball to shoot.

I still like casting, reloading, and shooting my 45,40,9, & 6.8.
But it is hard to beat a warm day with friends at the range shooting 22s.
It has a high giggle factor.

I also enjoy centerfire very much but have learnt shooting with a club owned .22 l.r. Colt OMM and think that a rimfire handgun is an excellent training tool.

My sons learnt shooting with a S&W 22A and we have fired over 100,000 rounds through that gun, a brick of 550 was $6.97 when we started and it was hard enough for me to load the magazines for them.

They both shoot over 90% on an ISSF pistol target regularly.

Nice!!!

Have you introduced them to shooting free pistols yet?

I have only tried free pistol a few times myself, have not had a chance to introduce my sons. They are both in med school and have way too little time for any hobbies. Their studies also deplete me of hobby funds - or I would get a Hämmerli 120.

At my club, we shoot rimfire pistols on Wed nites. 50 feet, mostly offhand. It really is fun and great practice. Only thing is my mod 41 spoils the heck out me with that trigger. Nothing else feels really right after that one. Mike

Ruger made a lever action .22 once upon a time. Used same rotary mag as 10-22.

As I said I bought a GSG 22, and I love it.
But now I can't find a box of .22s anywhere.
It figures.:(

Yeah, .22 l.r. are pretty hard to find right now. It wasn't different the last time.

Love shooting my .22s, cheap and just as fun as the ones that kick. I just went to a gun show in Durant, OK to try and get some .22lr ammo and you could not buy .22lr ammo. Maybe I should have gone yesterday.
Then again even if I went yesterday I probably would have just been ticked off at the price that a friend told me they
were going for, $50 for 550 rounds.
