With all the BS going on in the country right know, it has made me do some thinking. I started to think about things that have made me happy. And now as I sit here half crying.

I have not looked at some pics of my best friend in a while. I was just looking at some of these and I started to cry. God I miss him. The hardest thing I have ever done is to put him down. He had a non operable spinal injury. I held him until he was gone.

I think I am going to go get drunk now.

I feel for ya brother!

I have had to personally put down many of my companions over the past 30 years. The last two, one of which was my all time favorite, I just could not pull the trigger. I took them both to the vet.

You've got great memories, hang on to them. And make new ones with a new pup. Puppies are great healers!

Be well my freind.

I can tell he had a very full life doing what labs love best. I have lost two and it doesn't get any easier. I still have dreams of my childhood lab on occasion.

Totally understand!! I had a Chocolate Lab "Brutis" he was 16-1/2 years old when I had to have him put down. Even though he lived a lot longer than most Labs do it didn't make it any easier!! Just know this, you did the right thing. You have your memories with him! Funny how they wiggle there way into your life and effect it the way they do. Miss my Buddy too!

I tried to look at a new pup. But I just could not do it. Then one day this little doll found me.

Her name is Haley. She is a Snowshoe. She is sitting on the arm of my chair as I type this. She is very possessive. She follows me like a little puppy. My old lady calls her Princess. They both fight for my attention.

It's all about companionship. There's a huge difference between that and a"pet'".

I can feel your pain,I have been through the feeling of guilt the sorrow and heartbreak.Time will heal some and then your memories will be of the good times you shared together.you gave him a good life and should hold your head high, there are those in this world who do not have your compassion.Visit the places you used to go,get the boat out, talk to friends and family about the things you did with him.

New guy here but keep your head up. He looks to have lived a great life. The coat on that guy is amazing though, beautiful dog and great pics to remember him. My partner is scruffy but he puts his life at risk to make my job safer. I spend more time with him than my wife. Best wishes brother.

A new furry friend is the solution, but not a replacement. They make a new spot
in your heart.

I lost my Buddy this past year and still blame myself, can't bear to get another one right now. A few months after he died a stray cat adopted me and I kept her on as a mouser. She's an outside cat so whenever I'm outside she's at my heels or just hanging out with me. She follows voice and audible commands but can't seem to get hand signals down. No substitute for a good dog, I guess.

The boxer in my avatar photo died of cancer in my arms on Aug 1, 2012 at 5:45pm. He was my best friend. I was a mess for months. I have a new boxer now, not a replacement but a companion who needs me as much as I need him. My best wishes to you my friend...

When Bear past, it hit me hard. I have been hunting since I can't remember I was so young. I don't remember when I shot my first gun. Hunting has been a family tradition.

After he left, I sold all of my duck hunting stuff. That was our favorite thing to do. He left me 5-22-10 at 2:55 in the afternoon. He left me while I held him looking into his eyes. I wanted the last thing he seen to be me.

The small boat he is sitting on with the grass was HIS boat. We built the whole boat out of wood. It was of my own design. It was laminated in epoxy and fiberglass cloth. I sold the boat; everything. I still have not gone hunting since. I shoot a lot, but, thats not the same.

For some of you guys that have working dogs. It was a great feeling when you took them out and you did not even have to tell them what to do. They just knew it. With duck dogs, it seems that the ones I have been around, years 6-10 are the greatest years for the dogs.

We used to walk down to a local public hunting marsh. I never even had to bring a gun with me to get my limit on ducks. I sent him out to the marsh and he would come back with a cripple. We did this at least once a week.

I was just remembering his first goose. It was on a sand bar and the water was about 6-8". I shot and knocked one down. It just broke a wing. Bear went running up to it, then stopped. He looked at the goose, turned around and looked at me like WHAT THE HELL IS THIS! I yell at him to get it. He tries and the goose starts to slap him with his wings. Then peck at him. Bear then gets pissed and grabs the goose by the neck and he pushes it over in to the water. He takes one bite and it was over. He comes back with the goose in his mouth and he was all standing proud and wagging his tail. Like Look at ME daddy. Look what I got!

That still makes me laugh to this day.
