Howdy,

I am hoping that some one has tried to load the Lee 230gr blackout boolit in the 308 win. I am limited to a magazine length in the Ruger scout rifle. I would like to use AA 5744 but unsure if the boolit set to mag length would create to high of pressure. I am tempted to try 18gr 5744. Does any one have any feed back on this?

Thanks for your input.

I havent had any use so far with this boolit in my AR. I did try it in a 308 NEF...most boolits keyholed at 50 yards, but the twist is only 1/12. My AR will be 1/8. I would like to find a 300 AAC BLK in a bolt action.

What was your powder and charge weight? What is a 308 NEF? thanks

If I was going to load this boolit in a 308 I would start at 15grs of 5744 and work up. The boolit is very long so may intrude into the powder space enough to raise pressures. The boollit may keyhole at low velocity so work up and watch for pressure signs.
I am away from my load books right now but I got about 2" groups out of my Savage 30-06 at 100 yards with velocity approx. 1,900 fps. these were gas checked.
Be aware this boolit will bend if the mold is opened too soon. I checked some on my RCBS Casegauge to find this out.

I would like to try these in .30-30 and perhaps 7.62x39 (Are they too long?). Anyone have any experience with either?

I loaded some at 18.5 gr and they shoot great out to 50yds. There were no signs of high presure. I plan to increace to 19.5 and retest at 100yds. Almost no recoil to speak of. Have not had any issue with the boolet bending out of the mold. I heat treat to 450 for 1 hour and cool in ice water. I get a bh of 23. I also install gc as well. I set boolet to mag lenth@ 2.80,there does not apear to be a long jump to rifling.

I shoot it sub sonic in my 7.62X39 out of a Tender barrel with a 9.5" twist. It is loaded ahead of 8.8grs of AA#9 and sparked with a large pistol primer. I get .5"@50yds with it lubed with 50/50 XLOX. Chrono'd it is going at 980fps. I also used it out of my 308 barrel on my Encore ahead of 9.9 AA#5. Accuracy was okay (suprised the heck out of me that they didn't hit sideways at 50yds) and pressures were very low. In fact for both loads there is some amount of carbon smudging on the cases because of the low pressures.
