I just wanted to mention that I recently ordered a mould from Mountain Molds, where you can design your own bullet, and it arrived in the mail ten days later!
Production work is superb, cavities polished and gorgeous, well packaged for shipping, and reasonable prices.
I ordered a 3-cavity aluminum. Faster production than two, but easier to work with than four.
I cast about 60 bullets last night in no time, they dropped out nicely, and I only threw about six back in the pot.
I am really happy with this mould.
My new 45ACP, 230gr, Secant ogive, 70% meplate feeds great through both my Springfield 1911-RO and XDS.
Cheers,
Alex

I only have one right now, but have another coming soon I hope. They are a great mold. Easy to work with and very clean and well built.

I just ordered one as well, got it in 2.5 weeks. Have yet to get it hot though.

I have two of them. One in 38 and the other in 40. Both are truncated cone. Bullets don't stick to the moulds as much as others and the accuracy is tremendous. Both are aluminum two-cavity moulds. I couldn't be happier.

Any Cal.

I have one that is really nice. As long as I open the mold quickly, the boolits pop out together like 3 little acrobats. I did have to tighten a setscrew when I first bought it, but it has been great once it had a couple heats. Mine is an Al 3 banger as well. Seems like I get similar production rate as my Ranchdog 6 cav.

Dan does great work over there at MountainMolds. I've had a few of his over time and I can't complain and is service is great too. That boolit is just about what I would put together for a good 45 ACP defense round..........nice looking design.

I have some of Dan's molds too, great work. Your design looks a lot like the BD45. That design shoots great in my .45's.

I had a chance to get out and shoot some of them today. Two misfeeds out of 75 rounds, but I think I need to adjust the seating depth.
I am very happy with the accuracy. 10 yards, standing, slow fire. 4.5 grs of IMR PB.
Springfield XDS 3.3" barrel

Nice shooting. I just got my new one today. It is a 285 gr. .453 semi wadcutter. I think it will be a terror in the 454.

I ordered a Mountain Molds brass mold a little over a year ago. It's intended purpose was for the 7.62x25 cartridge to be shot out of a CZ-52. Below is what I ended up with.

30-180-FN Close to a Lyman #311041. .312" body with tapered nose .301 to .302".

On left is RCBS 35-200-FN On right is my Mountain Mold 35-205 grain. RCBS cast 220 grains from my 50/50 plus tin alloy. This one also proved a good shooter in a H&R single shot 357 magnum rifle. Less reach down into the case than the 180 grain Saeco. For more slow powder. Long nose prevents accidental loading into a revolver.

.360-170-FN. .300" long nose to run through Marlin .357 magnum lever guns. Or short cylinder 357 mag revolvers. Nose is under bore size to always chamber up easily in short throat rifle chambers. Like RCBS 158gr CM.

I also have a 245 grain 35 caliber with .002" oversize bore ride section. Non standard dimentions is why I went to Mountin Molds. Pretty much just copied a standard bullet then set the diameters I wanted. 360-170-FN is a bit of a hybrid with rifle body and pistol nose.

That is what I was shooting for. (Bad pun fully intended.)
The nose is just a little bit longer than the BD45, and the meplat just a little bit smaller.
It feeds great in both my XDS and SA1911 RO.
Very happy with this bullet.

They are a super awesome mold! Get the brass if you can afford it. You will not be disappointed!

Looking at the bullet design computer that is on the sight makes my head hurt. I would like to order smooth sided molds that are slightly undersized so that I can plate them. Any help would be appreciated. I just can not figure this out. I do not even see the bullet diameters that I want to cast.

Dan has been producing great molds for many years. Can't beat a custom mold made exactly the way you want it, at production prices! He's my goto guy when I need something not available off the shelf.

If the software isn't providing what you want, drop Dan a line. There are some limitations he's put on the design software that don't necessarily correlate to constraints on what he can machine. An undersize smooth sided design should be no problem, and quite a bit easier to machine.
