Hey guys,
I have been given some 255 gr. Gas Checked RNFP Boolits to test for the 405 Winchester.(Thanks CCB)
Unfortunately , I can find No data for this light Boolit. Everything is for 300 grain.
Has anyone shot this light of a boolit and what powder Charge was used and accurate ?
DO NOT SAY TRAILBOSS...dont have it up here.
I have lots of regular powders to choose from.
This is for an 1895 Winchester rifle.
Thanks,
Rich

Sounds unusually light for a .405. Is that a .41 cal. pistol bullet perhaps? In Ken Waters' PET LOADS series for HANDLOADER magazine (reprinted in the PET LOADS book), he used several .41 cal. pistol bullets, but all were jacketed and from 200 - 220 grains, at velocities above 2,000 fps. I have used loads as light as 14 grains Unique (and Universal) with the 285 grain Lyman #412263 RN in a .405 for a muzzle vel. of 1,300 fps. Depending on your alloy, I would start at about 12 grs. and go from there. I would certainly use a chronograph. Also worth trying (start loads), 22 grs. SR4759 and /or 28 grs. Reloder 7. Don't use fillers. Perhaps someone else here has experience with light bullet .405 loads and can provide better recommendations.
