If you do a search you will find that some have used Pyrodex and other Blackpowder replicas in their cartridge firearms on this forum. I believe that some have even used Triple7 as a powder in modern cartridges as well.

I always use a drop tube to load 777ffg in my 45-70. It's the only way to get enough powder in to push my 500 gr boolit to near 1300fps. I've never read anywhere about don't use a drop tube with 777. OTOH, once in the case, I have had only frustration if I compressed 777 with a compression die. YMMV.

As regards 777 being hygroscopic, all I can say is that if you disassemble an old round the 777 is usually caked up, i.e. you got to poke it to get it to crumble and fall out, and the rounds don't have to be all that old either.

Does anyone know the shelf life of 777? (hygroscopic)
I don't think it lasts decades like real black or smokeless for that matter.

I've found that much after one year in storage, 777 tends to give me erratic groups (with front stuffers anyway). Don't know what others have experienced, but I won't stock pile the stuff.

Not sure about in powder form... but saving a box of the pre-formed pellets from one year to the next didn't work so well for me... took the inline out the next year to be sure of my scope zero and the sabot and bullet ended up going about 10 yards. The still-burning-like-solid-rocket-fuel pellets went about 40.

I use 777 for all my Cartridge BP rifles. . I know I can load by Vol but I prefer to convert Vol to Grain and run into my older Lyman 55 pm. . I use the conversion chart enclosed and make the proper reduction and place a thin cardboard wad on top with no compression. See the enclosed chart

This web site dated 2005 will give you a goog conversion. There is a later version dated 2012 which is a little more defined
Good loading
