Want to run bullets in the 1000 - 1150 range.
44 and 45 cal. HP and Solids
medium to faster burn rates say unique and faster.
What would you choose for an alloy?
Thank you

are the hollow points for hunting or for looking at?
if just for looking at, then ww and some tin is all you need.

Well if they shoot the best I would use them for hunting.
I'm going to go with the best shooting load I can come up with.
If I develop to hard of a hollow point and it shoots great and then
soften it to get the bullet to open it's accuracy will change wont it?
What do you guys use to get your HP's to perform correctly.
Is there an alloy that is standard fare for both at this velocity.
With the price of ingredients these days I'd like to get it right the first time.
These would be on northern deer and probably 50+/- yds max.
I can't see being able to shoot good enough for any further.

i don't really use hollow points.
the 44 and 45 make enough of a hole going in and out.
i just let the flat point do it's job.
i come to that conclusion after having a couple of hornady xtp's not open and still have a dead deer within the same distance as when they did open.
to make a hollow point open is easy nuff, you use an alloy with less antimony in it.
if you use something like 50-50 ww's and soft and add a little tin to help fill out and to buffer the alloy, and water drop that if you are trying for warp velocity.
you end up with an alloy bhn slightly harder than straight ww's with tin added.
the load doesn't change or the poi.
and you retain the malleability of the reduced alloy.
the cool thing is you can do the same thing for the flat points, then the only change is the weight of the hollow point.
you can reduce the ww's with soft lead a little at a time untill you find the balance point of the velocity/time pressure curve of the powder and the ability of the lead to grip the rifling. [a gas check helps extend this]
if you really want them to splat open then an alloy change [to lead/tin] and a gas check would be the way to go in a revolver.
you still have to ballance this.

So does this sound like it will work.
I have a mix of stuff blended Shot,ww,range and pure - mostly ww though.
Bought a set of them pencils and it rates as 2B so about 10ish BHN if I read right.
I have some that pencil rates as 3B so a little softer.
Mix these 2 in equal amounts with some tin for fill out.
I have 40/60 and some 95/5 tin/ant
Which and how much would you use?
40/60 would soften it a little and the 95/5 would harden it correct?
