A few years ago, I bought a 1 lb. container of Unique from the local gunshop in Charleston, SC for $20.99(bottle still has price sticker on it). The other day, I was in a big sporting goods store here in Columbia, SC and spotted a lb. of Unique for $15.95. I like to fell out! Then I saw an 8 lb. jug on the shelf above that for $99. 95. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that works out to about $12.50 a lb., don't it?

Powder price increases have been scaring me, but $12.50 a lb. I can deal with! Sportsman's Warehouse has MY business!

$91 for a 8 pound jug at Powder Valley! So for $99.95 on the shelf, as a solo buy, in the store, no shipping or haz mat fee, yeah I'd jump on it. Unless of course I was going to make a big order for other goodies too.

$15-16 a pound for 1lb containers is the average price here in mid-TN.

A friend from southern CA tells me that powder prices in his area are almost exactly double what they are in NV. I imagine taxes and insurance premiums make the difference.

My son lives in KY & on our 'round about' trips there & back I sometimes wind up driving through Springfield. Mind telling me where you buy your powder there? I think I would like to visit that shop as it's ~$20.00 or more here in N. Ala.

Dealer greed is the biggest difference. There may well have been dealers (trying) selling powder for twice the $18 a pound I paid in SoCal 4 years ago. Eight pounders could be had for $115 plus tax. What would you rather do, sell 200 pounds a year and make $2 a pound on it, or 20 pounds a year and make $15 a pound on it? Dealer's choice.

I just bought a 4# jug of 2400 for $59.99 at the Sportsmans Warehouse in Aurora, Colorado. Single pound jugs are $16.50.

I have a local guy(40 miles away) that is usually at Powder Valleys prices plus or minus 5%. Last 8# of Varget was $113, #4 of solo 1000 was $50, Reloder 7 was $16. He seems to be about 10% under Sportsmens Whorehouse.

Bought some solo 1250 from him a while back for $50 per 8# jug.

I'd much rather support the local guy than the big box stores

What I want to know is how come you guys in the US can by VARGET cheaper than I can buy AR2208 in NZ? They are the same powder made by ADI yet your VARGET has travelled further, been relabeled etc.

I'm with our friend in the UK. You guys don't have "high" prices.

I am paying USD45.00lb.

Hi Jim,
Did they have any Winchester or Federal Large Pistol Primers? I was up there two weeks ago to buy a safe from Shooter's Choice and bought the last 4,000 Federal 150s they had. They were down to less than 1,000 WLPs. I'd like to buy another 5,000 or so when they get them back in. There's an IDPA match at Mid Carolina the fourth Saturday of the month that makes the trip up from the coast more worth while in my mind.

Jeff, I think there are two issues here. First, crossing the Tasman is pretty expensive - AR2208 retails at US$30 per pound over the counter here in Melbourne, and US$25 in Sydney. It is slightly cheaper than that in 8 pound jugs, still at retail. Second, I suspect a whole lot more ADI powder is sold in the US than is sold as sporting powder in Australia. ADI's deals with Hogdon, plus production of military powders for Australian use, are probably what that company is about. Chances are Hogdon doesn't pay all that much per pound.

Rick N Bama, it's a fantastic little shop called the Reloader's Bench. It's located in Mount Juliet, TN right off of I-40 just east of Nashville. The first time I walked into the place I felt like a kid in a candy store, wall to wall reloading stuff. If you want more info PM me. I also have a son in KY, where is your son located? Mine lives in Bowling Green.
