I have a number of .449 GG 500 gr. boolits that match my Sharps bore diameter...got them in trade. My question is will they bump up when fired enough to engage the grooves?

Any chance they are meant for a 44-90 instead?

Are they sized and lubed at that diam?

Yes...sized and lubed at .449.

depends on how soft they are, and what you load behind them.

I'll bet the bump up just fine if they are soft and you are shooting black powder with them. Bore diameter paper patched bullets seem to have no issues bumping up. I'd load some up with an LDPE wad and see how they work seated way out like a bore diameter PP bullet, i.e. seated about 1/10" into the case.

I would paper patch them to groove diameter, then load normally.

I have no idea what or where your bullets came from nor the intended purpose. I have three moulds for this size bullet.
I used to make and sell (lots) of trays of these through Joe Hepsworth back in the day.
They can be shot very accurately in a 450"- 458" 45 cal barrel.

I have shot them with good accuracy in a breach loader 45-70.You can size the case mouth to about take the bore diameter bullet but no need to. Or, you can do it with a full case of powder and a wad on the case mouth. Lay the bullet in the rear of the chamber and chamber the case behind it. Basically this is breach-seating the bullet. Even hard alloy for BPCR (15 BHN) will take the rifling easily.
I've done all this plenty.

I really have the three moulds to shoot long range Muzzle loader in my Gibbs (Pedersoli copy) LR-ML. I like 16 to 1 Lead tin but 20 to 1 works fine with the two blunter designs. The long tangent ogive designs need harder alloy do to lack of nose support.

I would guess your bullets will shoot if/when you hit on the right combination of components.

Probably like Mike said, BACO makes a .449 greaser for the Gibbs ML. I have one for my Gibbs but it shoots to good with the PP to mess with the leading potential.
