WC 844 is supposed to be close to h335 correct?
Does anyone know if WC844T would be safe to use IF we are talking about starting loads ONLY. I cannot find much about 844T but I got 8lbs of it.
I'd like to work up a load for 30/30 using Hornady FTXs. I do not intend or even have a desire to push them hard.
I'm thinking maybe reduce H335 starting charge by 10% and work up to starting charge until I find a decent group.
Any opinions would much appreciated.

Using a full 10 % reduction sounds safe enough to me.

WC 844 Pull Down - (Cross reference loading data for H335) http://www.hodgdon.com/basic-manual-inquiry.html
Original application is U.S. 5.56mm NATO Ball M193 (55gr) & M855 (62gr),
plus Tracer M196 & M856. Typical starting load for 55gr bullet is 26gr,
and 62gr bullet is 25gr. A ball powder which can be loaded with Hodgdon H335 data.
Also works great in 7.62mm NATO (.308 Win.).
This is pulldown powder.

WC 844T - Designed for use in M-856 Tracer - designed to burn hotter than WC 844 to ignite Trace compound in the bullet.

the 844t ive got seems to burn just a tad faster then the regular 844 or the 844 pulldown ive used. Both of them though seem to burn just a bit slower then 335 and 844t seems to be about spot on with 335. Now thats in my guns with my lot of powder so you still should work up the first time and do it everytime you switch lot numbers with surplus powders.

I use some 844 and it's right in line with the 335 data.

The 844 I have is a bit slower than 335. 26.5gr is what I settled on and I get right around 3000 FPS with Hornady 55gr FMJ.

depends on the lot. ive used hundreds of 844 and usually mix them up when i get a batch to get some consistency. always work up a load when using a new lot #. i would assume 844t to burn a little hotter and more sensitive. isn't there something in that powder that fouls the barrel more quickly?

While I do not discredit that, I have not heard that before.

burns as clean as the regular 844 in my guns.

My lot seems to run @ BLC2 levels but it is not the T stuff.

Ben was right, perfectly safe. I run 30.0g in 308 Winchester using a 180g Mihec silhouette and was tearing one ragged hole. Very, very mild load. Recoil was only slightly more than 13.0g of Unique although the sound was totally different. I don't really know how to describe the report but it sounded more like a small shotgun than rifle. The primer radius was large, zero pressure signs. I may slowly creep as high as 32.0g but accuracy is great and penetration at 50 yards exceeded the thickness of four pine 2x4s so I'd say it's more than sufficient for deer or other edible critters around here.

I ran a dry patch afterwards and got only a faint trace of soot. No leading either. At $80 for 8lbs, I'm all in on this one!!

I reload my 223 Rem AR15 with WC-844 and 55gr J-bullets quite regularly. I use H335 data minus 10% as I tried using it as H335 and I was popping primers so the reduction is a smart move with my lot of 844.

Yes it is especially with this. 844T is a little hotter to light tracers.

Sadly, I cannot find either of these propellants in my area at the moment. I did buy an 8 lb jug of the WC844 and settled on 25.0 grs under a Hornady 55 gr FMJBTw/c with outstanding results. It burns very clean, has a very low flash signature at the muzzle, and meters like water through my measure. I look forward to obtaining many jugs in the future as they become available again. I cannot imagine the WC844T leaving any more residual fouling than the WC844 I have used thus far. Even if it does, it is little trouble to run a few more patches through the bore to clean up after it given the price point.
I miss the days of the $56 delivered per 8 lb jug of Data2200 from Widener's just a few years back. I bought 48 lbs and I am down to one jug. The WC844 and WC844T is at least as good.

I stocked up as much as I could on 844 when it was available. Has anyone notice a really odd stanky smell when fired using 844?

I tried someWC 844 pull down yesterday in my Ruger bolt 223. No strange smell.
My lot seems to burn slower than H335....dale

I've set a personal max load of 32.0g for this particular boolit in 308 Winchester. Nothing to base that on really and I have no doubts I could safely go higher but....why? Ie already found it to be VERY accurate and I doubt it will get much better. I loaded a new lot this morning moving in half grain increments from 30 up 32 grains. I'll find the sweetest spot in that range and be happy.

Pressures may see to be low but we all know things change fast and summer is coming. Warm temps change things.
