The rifle I'm about to receive is a Rossi 92 lever 44-40,a caliber I have no experience with. My plan is to buy factory loads at first, shoot them to get a feel for the rifle, then hand load for it.
I am curious to know if anyone has one of these rifles that they load for,and could help to steer me in the right direction as to which diameter bullet, weight of said bullet, and maybe their favorite powder and charge

Thanks for looking

I use 4.5 gr. of Trail Boss with a .428 lfn bullit for all my 44-40 guns, rossi 92, Uberti 66, and Colt Saa's. I use this load for plickn and CAS.

Thanks for the info.

I found out this rifle will not be mine. The deal has fallen out,the man that I was dealing with ,I life long friend, pulled the rug out from under me. Someone made a offer to him for one hundred dollars more than we agreed on and he's selling it to them. While this helps his wallet it will also end a 15yr friendship and free mechanical services rendered by me.

How wonderful the day was when a man kept his word. Thankfully there are still some who do so.

I relatively young at 32,but I've seen the downfall of this. Plus running an automotive repair shop you get to learn the hard way to trust little, and be skeptical alot, sad for certain.:(
