View Full Version : Any experience with Sightmark Spotting Scopes?

I have been putting up with a cheap spotting scope for way too long. Most of my shooting is off the bench at 100 yards, and it's not uncommon for me not to be able to see holes in my targets with my low-quality BSA 20-60x60 power "straight" spotting scope.

So I have decided to spring for a new one. I can't afford one of the $400/$500 and up Kowas or others, but I have had my eye on a Bushnell "Trophy XLT" 20-60x65mm Porro Prism spotting scope at Optics Planet that's in the $200 range.

This week I got a Sportsman's Guide catalog in the mail, and they have a similar looking Sightmark spotting scope outfit for sale for around $70.00 -- which is a lot less than the $200 I was getting ready to spend :)

Before I do something stoopid yet again (I think I may have gotten the BSA scope from the same place), I thought I would check with the board and see if any of you have any experience with Sightmark spotting scopes. This one is a 20-60x60mm with a field of view at 1,000 yards of 110'.

As always, TIA,

Tom

No experience with Sightmark, but with cheaper optic's you take your chances (and generally get what you pay for)
- suggestion go to local shops and look at some of the large Binocular optic's specifically something like this.
And compare multiple copies of same product - import quality control can be an iffy thing.

One you get to use both eyes and if you look at something designed for good resolution for stargazing you will find bullet holes not that hard to see.

Oh, and one other thing - You can use targets that help you see the bullet holes - Black Bullseyes are great for shooting with iron sights but with a scope you
will find other targets much easier to see and your ability to spot the bullet holes much better.

I don't have any experience with the Sightmore spotting scope, but will say the Bushnell "Trophy XLT" 20-60x65mm is a great product. I've been using one now for a couple years and with my old eyes it's a BIG improvement over the cheaper ones. Mine even came with a hard case and thats another plus for me.
